Dr. Anjay M.A.

One of the most active quizzers of his generation, Anjay M A, easily ranks among the all time great quizzers in Kerala. His record, spanning several years as a student at Calicut Medical College is terrific, with over 100 quizzes won. He also has the distinction of winning the National Inter-University quiz as part of the Calicut university quiz team in 1999 and the SAARC trophy, representing India. He also won the K N Pai memorial All India Quiz competition organised by Kerala university in successive years(1995 and '96).
He has four Calicut University Interzone titles under his belt as well as several successful appearances at South Zone youth festivals. A two time winner of the Babu Chazhikkadan Trophy, (one of the most prestigious quizzes in Kerala) he has also appeared in several TV quizzes.

He started on his quizzing journey in the small town of Palakkad and won his first state level prize as a Pre- Degree student at the Thrissur zonals of the "Brain of Kerala" quiz. He won the third prize beating several top teams and still has fond memories of the win.
Anjay's rise in the highly competitive Calicut quiz circuit was achieved with a lot of patience and hardwork. The victory at "Quiz Summit" , a quiz hosted by Sidhartha Basu on DD-Metro was a high point in his illustrious record. He is also a rationalist and a keen book enthusiast.
Sports was one area which he never bothered to brush up. But having a sports enthusiast like Anoop Koshy helped him in overcoming that hurdle as well.

As an ardent proponent of quality quizzing, Anjay easily outscores other members of his generation with his efforts in popularising the game. As a quiz master, he was primarily responsible for moulding the tastes of a generation of Calicut quizzers like Abid, Atul,Manjith, Praveen,Ravi,Roshith and Vijaykrishnan. As faithful proponents of the "Nagesh" school of quizzing, Anjay and Rajmohan conducted several entertaining quizzes in Calicut.
He also set up one of the earliest quizzing organisations in Malabar, aptly named the Calicut Quiz Foundation. CQF organised several good quizzes, despite severe lack of resources. Always on the lookout for quizzing oportunities, he even converted the Blood Donors Forum in Medical College into a defacto quizzing organisation, doing several quizzes under their banner!

Anjay has a special relationship with REC Calicut. After passing out, he made several visits to the turf of his erstwhile competitors and won many hearts with his enjoyable quizzes. Three appearances as quiz master of Ragam(2000,2001,2002-03) as well as an appearance at the "Ramesh Memorial Quiz", an intra-REC quiz made him a well known figure at REC(now NITC). He contributed handsomely for the first quiz fest organised by Enquire, the quiz club of NITC and is still a good friend of the group. Anjay is currently working in the UK, far from the quizzing scene of Kerala, but continues to organise and unite kerala quizzers through the orkut community he started. Recently he conducted an open quiz at the Model Engineering College in Ernakulam, while on a short visit to his native place.
