Quizzes on December 3rd

Greycells will be holding two quizzes on December 3rd, Saturday. 

The venue for both the quizzes will be Devamatha CMI Public School, Patturaickal, Thrissur.

1) The Greycells Lone Kid

The first quiz is the 3rd edition of the Greycells Lone Kid. It is open to individuals studying in classes VIII to XII. 

There is no limit to the number of participants that each school can register for the quiz. 

There will be no registration fee.

Cash prizes for the top two positions.

It will be written quiz comprising of 60 questions to be completed in 45 minutes.

Time: Registration at 930am. Quiz starts at 1030am sharp. Quiz will be closed to late comers after 1045am.

2) The Anoop Adithian Memorial General Open Quiz:

Greycells conducts an annual Open quiz in memory of Anoop Adithian, a fellow quizzer who represented Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur with distinction nearly two decades ago. This is the 3rd edition of the quiz.

Anoop was one of the finest quizzers of his day and was greatly respected for his quizzing abilities as well as a human being. He met a sad end a few years ago, and since then we have been conducting this quiz in his memory.

The Quiz is open to all, irrespective of age or institutional affiliation. 

Teams of (maximum) two members.

The winners will receive the Anoop Adithian Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy. 

There are cash prizes for all finalists.

Registration Fee: Rs. 50 per team.

Time: Registration opens at 130pm. Prelims at 2pm.

The third edition of Mega-Whats, KQA's National Open Quizzing Championship will be held on Sunday, 11 December 2011 (1500hrs-1800hrs).

The quiz will be held across thirteen cities simultaneously. Apart from Bangalore, we have confirmations from Chennai, Guwahati, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Mysore, New Delhi, Pune, Thrissur, and Thiruvananthapuram.

The details:

1. Date: Sunday, 11 December 2011
2. General quiz, open to all.
3. Teams of FOUR members (or less).
4. Prior registration is advised--many venues have limited seating..
5. To register, please use the form as indicated above.
6. Please provide the names of the four people who comprise your team; also indicate whether you are taking part in the school, college or open categories
7. Registrations will close on Tuesday 6th December 2011. City co-ordinators will allow entries after the cut-off date at their discretion.
8. Please note that the quizzing community in your city may charge an entry fee to meet venue and equipment hire expenses.
9. The school category is open only to teams comprising students from Std. VIII-X
10. School teams ( Std. VIII-X) are allowed free entry. A school may field ONE team.
11. Please report by 1430hrs at the venue in your city. Since we need to ensure a coordinated start nationwide, the quiz will start at 1500hrs sharp. The doors will be closed five minutes before we begin.
12. Contesting teams will answer in writing a quiz of six sections and about sixty questions, inclusive of audios, videos and visuals.
13. Answers and scores will be announced immediately after the event–prizes will be given out for Best School Team, Best College Team, and Best Open Team.
14. The prizes aren't small–they are insignificant.
15. We will rank the top 100 teams across the country–this list will go up by the 25th of December.
16. The rankings will be announced after adjudication. The decision of the quiz-masters will be final and binding on all participants.
17. The city-winners will face off in June 2012 as part of the KQA 29th Anniversary.

Mahaquizzer 2011

MahaQuizzer 2011, the seventh edition of the National Solo Quiz Championship by the KQA will be held in 14 cities across India (and in the UK &a US) on Sunday 29th May 2011. As usual, the quiz will require takers to answer 150 questions in 90 minutes. Participants are requested to be at the venue latest by 9:30AM to ensure an on-time start! Anyone arriving after 10AM IST is strictly not allowed to participate (whatever be the reason!).




This year's research team is a veritable mix of people with varied interests: So Urmila Lakshmanan, Vivek Karthikeyan, Rajagopal P.S., Rahul Kottalgi and Mitesh Agarwal are attempting to set questions that will interest school students, corporates, die-hard open quizzers, casual quizzers, non-comp quizzers, compulsive quizzers, non-quizzers, uncles & aunties.


Prizes in each city for best School, College, Lady and Open entrant. The School Category is defined as per the Karnataka Quiz Association as students upto Standard X. MEGA-WHATS 2010: KQA’S NATIONAL OPEN QUIZZING CHAMPIONSHIP

This is to announce the second edition of Mega-Whats, our National Open Quizzing Championship.

The quiz will be held across nine cities simultaneously. Apart from Bangalore, we have  venue confirmations from Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Thrissur, Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi and Kolkata. More information on venues soon.

The venue in Bangalore is the first-floor hall at The Institute of Agricultural Technologists, Queen’s Road. Please register early–the hall can accommodate about 30 teams.

The second edition of the Lone Kid quiz, open to solo participants from both schools and colleges. Separate prizes in each category.


The quiz will be a written affair, with 60 questions to be attempted in 45 minutes.

1. Trivia for Toddlers - The Grey Cells Inter-School Quiz

Prelims start at 10:30 am, and we hope to finish the entire quiz by 1:30 latest.

There is no registration fee for this event.

This is a General Quiz for school teams from standards 8th to 12th. Any number of teams from a school can take part, with each team consisting of a maximum of two members. Cross- School teams are not allowed, and taking into consideration the number of wise guys floating around, we will be requiring ID cards.

Prize Money: Rs.4000 total.


2. 42 is Not the Answer! - The Grey Cells Inter-Collegiate Quiz

Prelims start at 2pm, and we wind up by latest 5 pm.

There will be a token registration fee.

General Quiz for College teams. Any number of teams from a college can take part, with each team consisting of a maximum of two members. Owing to the incredible depth in the field, we have decided to allow cross-college teams to take part, provided they can prove that they are indeed, college students. They will also have to prove that they have passed school. T-shirts will not be taken as proof of nativity. Bring your ID cards.

Prize Money: Rs. 6000 total

Greycells will be doing two Open quizzes on 17th January at Thrissur. Quizzes are open to all irrespective of age or institutional affiliation. We will be having two quizzes: One is a General Open Quiz and the other will be a re run of the KQA History Quiz that the same QM duo will be doing on this Sunday (10th) at Bangalore. So feel free to try and get the questions :)

Prelims for school teams will be valued separately.Those who are going to be in +2 & below will be considered as school category.Best 6 open teams & best 6 school teams will go to the finals. (Note: Those who have written their +2 board exams will be considered in Open category. Cross school teams allowed)
